I have to confess that this is the first Normandie Alleman book I’ve read but it certainly won’t be my last. What a beautiful writer; her words literally flowed like a fine liqueur.
Rescued by the Buccaneer, as the name suggest, tells the story of a young English woman, who is rescued from pirates, by another pirate.
Setting out to the New World, Frederica Beauchamp’s journey comes to a tragic end when her ship is attacked and all of the crew and passengers are massacred. The unconscious Frederica is spared and taken prisoner on the pirate ship, and finds herself at the mercy of a sadistic captain who takes delight in punishing her. To Frederica’s annoyance these punishments have an unexpected effect on her.
Enter the dashing shipwrecked captain Gaston, full of charm and quite enchanted with this comely maiden. He promises her freedom in return for her help in getting his confiscated weapons. When the mutiny doesn’t quite go according to plan, Gaston blames Frederica, but even in spite of this fact, he still helps her to safety when both are thrown overboard.
Sparks fly between the pair, good and bad until eventually they are marooned on a desert island, and the kinder side of Gaston is unleashed as his protective nature kicks in. When they eventually reach civilization, Gaston is faced with the dilemma of returning to the ways of piracy and losing the woman he has come to care deeply for, or settling for a civilized way of life which he knows is not for him.
The story is beautifully told in a descriptive and lyrical manner, and while it moves along nicely, it never feels rushed. For a moment in time, the reader is transported back to a time when laws were lax, the world was dangerous, and with that danger came an excitement, which the heroine was all too willing to embrace. If I was to fault it at all, it would be that I didn’t feel the dialogue was particularly true to the time period, but being totally honest, that didn’t detract from the fact that it was a most enjoyable read.
Generously sprinkled with spankings, consensual and non consensual, punishment and erotic, and some really hot sex scenes provide the icing on the cake of this charming book. Definitely a hit for me and I look forward to reading more from Normandie’s backlist.
