Rules of War by Sue Lyndon

Since I love dystopian books this one was right up my alley. The fact it is set in my backyard (practically) is even better. Although I do have to say I had a moment”s pause in the beginning when the words “Downtown”, “Baltimore”, and “Safe Haven” were used in the same sentence. I have a, err, slightly different view point of downtown Baltimore – much better than it was, some areas are great, but I”m not sure safe haven applies LOL.

Anyway I loved Emma and John although Emma gave in way too quickly. She was pretty spunky in the beginning – since she was an Attorney that made perfect sense to me. I totally get lust that might make you do things you would not and rush into things, but it was just a bit too quick given the situation. John was just hot – and then hotter- and then really hot..you get the picture. A strong man who lived the honor he commanded from his men – He totally lit my fire!

I would have liked more about how this new society worked, how the settlement by the lake operated, and more about how John and Emma lived their daily lives. All of this would have given more world building. I didn”t really enjoy the plot point with the person from Emma”s past – it seemed a bit too convenient. I did love John”s language – I cracked up when he called her Princess because she was a little prissy and prickly. John can capture me anytime!
